What

The runbook claimed the trial has "one announced end date (end of August 2026); the trial-terms
page (/trial-terms) states this". The page states the opposite.

The drift

Every user-facing surface frames 31 August 2026 as a floor. It is the earliest the trial can end.
The trial runs until paid subscriptions launch for everyone.

Surface Wording
/trial-terms §2 (sv + en) "runs at least until 31 August 2026, even if paid subscriptions are launched before then"
sign-up checkbox notice (sv + en) "converts to a participant account when paid accounts are launched, but no earlier than 31 August 2026"
account panel "runs at least until 31 August 2026, then becomes a participant account"
accounts guide, trial-end FAQ (sv + en) "ends when paid accounts launch, but no earlier than 31 August 2026"

src/i18n/ui.ts carries a comment saying the floor framing is deliberate. The user-facing copy is
correct and consistent. Only the operator-facing docs drifted.

Why it matters

The drift pointed the wrong way. An operator reading the runbook before running the downgrade would
believe an announced deadline had passed. The downgrade is irreversible and revokes capabilities.
Neither belief is true:

  • Continuing past 31 August is the announced behaviour, not an extension. It needs no announcement.
  • Nothing runs the downgrade on a timer. No date forces the operator's hand.

Shortening the trial does require notice. So does moving the 31 August floor. The runbook now says
so.

Changes

  • docs/runbook.md. Corrected the claim. Retitled the section away from "end-of-August downgrade".
Marked the downgrade as having no scheduled date.
  • Three Ansible comments repeating the same claim: group_vars/all/vars.yml,
    roles/web/defaults/main.yml, roles/kanidm/defaults/main.yml.

No behaviour change. Documentation and comments only.

Verification

  • pnpm ansible:check passes.
  • grep -rn "end-of-August\|end of August" docs/runbook.md ansible/ returns nothing.
  • markdownlint clean via lefthook.

The runbook said the trial has "one announced end date (end of August 2026);
the trial-terms page states this". The page states the opposite. Every
user-facing surface frames 31 August 2026 as the earliest the trial can end,
with the trial running until paid subscriptions launch for everyone:

- /trial-terms sv+en §2 "runs at least until 31 August 2026"
- the sign-up checkbox notice, sv+en
- the account panel (src/i18n/ui.ts, with a comment stating the floor framing
  is deliberate)
- the accounts guide and the trial-end FAQ, sv+en

So the trial continuing past 31 August is the announced behaviour, not an
extension, and it needs no announcement. Nothing runs the downgrade on a
timer either, so no date forces the operator's hand.

This matters because the drift pointed the wrong way: an operator reading the
runbook before running an irreversible, capability-revoking batch would think
a deadline had passed. Corrects the same claim in three Ansible comments.

What still needs notice is shortening the trial or moving the floor itself.
